Activity Categories and Interaction Methods help your church organize Notes and Interactions consistently.
They answer two different questions:
| Activity Category | What was this about? |
|---|---|
| Interaction Method | How did the Interaction happen? |
For example:
Category: Pastoral Care
Method: Coffee
Together, those values provide useful context without requiring staff to place every detail into free-form text.
Activity Categories are located at:
People > People Settings > Activity Categories
Categories can be used when adding Notes, Interactions, or both.
Connection Card Pro provides preset Categories covering common ministry situations, such as:
These are starting points rather than a requirement that every church organize its ministry the same way.
Preset Categories can be edited or removed, and your organization can add its own Categories.
Each Activity Category can be configured as:
For example, your church might use Administrative only for Notes, while Pastoral Care is useful for both Notes and Interactions.
One Activity Category can be designated as the default.
The default Category is automatically selected when users begin applicable new records, while still allowing them to choose another Category when appropriate.
Custom Categories can help your staff record information consistently.
Depending on your ministry, examples might include:
Avoid creating several Categories that mean nearly the same thing. A smaller set of clearly understood Categories is usually easier for staff to use consistently.
Interaction Methods are located at:
People > People Settings > Interaction Methods
An Interaction Method describes how the Interaction happened.
Common examples include:
Connection Card Pro includes a handful of common Interaction Methods that are available to organizations across the system.
These shared Methods cannot be edited or removed.
Your organization can add its own custom Methods when the built-in choices do not adequately describe how your ministry connects with people.
Custom Methods can later be edited or removed.
There is no default Interaction Method, so the appropriate Method is chosen when an Interaction is recorded.
It is useful to keep these two concepts separate.
Consider these examples:
| Category | Method |
|---|---|
| Pastoral Care | Phone Call |
| Pastoral Care | Coffee |
| New Guest | Text Message |
| Crisis | Personal Visit |
| Celebration | Phone Call |
The Category tells you why or what the Interaction was about.
The Method tells you how it happened.
That distinction makes your Interaction history more meaningful and makes it easier for different staff members to record information consistently.
