Power User: Using Tag Binders with Groups
Overview
When you use tags to organize your groups in Connection Card Pro, the Tag Binders feature becomes an incredibly useful way to view everything associated with a specific tag — across all groups and tag categories.
This document will show you how to access the Tag Binders section, navigate through your tags, and view all groups linked to a particular tag.
This guide focuses on groups only. A broader version of Tag Binders will be covered in the system-wide tagging documentation.
What Is a Tag Binder?
A Tag Binder is like a folder for each tag. When you open a tag’s binder, you’ll see a list of all groups that share that tag — no matter what group type they are (Department, Division, Class, Small Group, Crew, or Team).
This is especially helpful for:
- Viewing all groups tied to a project or campaign
- Finding all groups tagged by language, neighborhood, or life stage
- Creating filtered exports or reports
- Auditing tag use and consistency
Where to Find the Tag Binders Page
- Go to the Organization menu
- Click Tag Binders
You’ll see a categorized layout of all available tag types and tags.
Navigating the Tag Binders Page
The page is organized visually into folders, grouped by tag type:
Public Tags and Custom Tags
- Appear grouped by Category (e.g., Stage of Life, Language)
- Click a Category folder to see all tags within it
- Click a Tag folder to open its binder
Project, Fundraiser, and Purpose Tags
- These types don’t use categories — each tag appears as its own folder
Note: This help doc focuses on binders for Groups. Other item types (Events, People, Transactions) will appear in the binder but are outside the scope of this document.
What’s Inside a Group Tag Binder?
When you open a tag’s binder, you’ll see:
- A list of all Groups that have been assigned that tag
- The type of each group (e.g., Small Group, Class, Team)
- Clickable links to view or edit the group
- Options to filter or export the list (coming soon, if not already enabled on your account)
Use this to:
- Audit which groups are part of a campaign or ministry area
- Check if tags are applied consistently
- Quickly open multiple groups tied to a common label
Tips for Tag Binder Organization
- Use Tag Categories to group related tags (especially for Public and Custom Tags)
- Avoid duplicate or ambiguous tag names
- Use consistent naming conventions across ministries
- Archive or remove unused tags if binders become cluttered
Use Cases for Group Tag Binders
| Use Case |
Example |
| Ministry Oversight | View all groups tagged with “Discipleship” |
| Semester Tracking | See all groups tagged “Fall 2024” |
| Public Directory Matching | Find all public groups with “Childcare Provided” |
| Audit Group Tag Coverage | See which groups are missing a specific tag |
| Cross-Group Projects | View all groups connected to “Outreach Weekend” |
What If a Group Doesn’t Appear in a Binder?
Double-check:
- That the group has been assigned the correct tag
- That you’re viewing the right tag type and category
- That filters or visibility restrictions aren’t hiding the group (e.g., inactive)
