Using Group Lists (Search, Filter, Sort)

Overview

Each group type in Connection Card Pro — Departments, Divisions, Classes, Small Groups, Crews, and Teams — has its own list page. These lists are equipped with tools that help you quickly search, filter, and sort groups with ease.

Whether you're managing 5 or 500 groups, these tools help you stay organized and focused.

Searching the Group List

You can search by:

  • Group Name
  • The group’s Owner (what it belongs to)
  • Member Names
  • Team Color (for Teams only)
Note: You cannot search by location, phone number, or city. These fields are not indexed for group list searches.

Filtering by Tags

Tags are powerful tools for categorizing and finding your groups.

When you click the “Tags” button, you’ll see all your tag categories — organized by type (Public Tags, Custom Tags, Fundraiser Tags, Project Tags).

After selecting a category, you can filter by:

  • ✅ Groups with a specific tag
  • ✅ Groups with any tag in that category
  • ✅ Groups with no tag in that category
Tag categories are fully customizable by your administrators. Your system may include categories like:
Examples You Might Use:
Public Tags (visible to guests) Custom Tags (admin-only)
Young AdultsSpanish Speaker
Women’s GroupNeeds Leader
Childcare AvailableFollow-Up Team
North CampusNew Volunteer

Filtering by “Belongs To”

The “Belongs To” filter allows you to narrow results based on the group’s parent structure. This may include:

  • A Department
  • A Division
  • A Parent Crew
  • A Points Event (for Teams)
  • A Unit (if enabled on your account)

Use this to quickly narrow the list to groups under a specific ministry or team hierarchy.

Sorting the List

Click any column header (e.g., Name or Members) to sort the list:

  • A–Z / Z–A
  • Most to fewest members
Note: Sorting resets if you reload the page.

Your Filters Stick Around

When you set filters (e.g., a tag or “Belongs To” filter), they stay active even after you leave the page — so the next time you return, your filters are still applied.

This behavior is:

  • Session-based
  • Saved per group type

So if you apply filters to Departments and then switch to Crews, each list will remember its own settings separately.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Combine search, filter, and sort to zero in on the exact group you’re looking for.
  • Use tags to track details like demographics, locations, or group needs.
  • Filter by “No Tag in Category” to find groups missing data.
  • Bookmark filtered views for quick access to your favorite group types.
